Reykjavík Arts Festival Kicks Off

The Reykjavík Arts Festival, which has been held biannually since 1970 and annually since 2004, launches today. The festival lasts for three weeks with special emphasis on contemporary art in an international context.

Nearly 200 Icelandic and foreign visual artists will participate in the more than 20 exhibitions organized around the festival this year and a number of musicians and performance artists will also contribute, reports.

Reykjavík Arts Festival manager Thórunn Sigurdardóttir said ticket sales were off to a good start, adding that the festival’s organizers have noticed a negative impact on sales due to the current economic situation in Iceland.
