Reykjavík City Council has approved a proposal by the Human Rights Office that the city apply for membership to the project Intercultural Cities, which is run by the Council of Europe.
The project supports cities which are revising policy from an intercultural lens.
Foreign nationals made up 8.1 percent of Reykjavík’s population in 2013.
The cost of participating in the project is ISK 750,000 (USD 6,800, EUR 5,000) per year.
