According to the agreement, a task force led by Ragna Árnadóttir, deputy CEO of Landsvirkjun, the national power company, will evaluate the airport’s location and make suggestions as to where to place it in the future, RÚV reports.
The task force is to hand in its suggestion after one year. Ragna said the task force will start working soon on obtaining information, consulting specialists and interest groups who are for and against keeping the airport in its current location.
Ragna revealed that the first priority is to have the airport remain in the capital region but that the task force will approach the project with an open mind and not rule out any options in the initial stage. The task force’s first meeting will be in November.
