Head of Reykjavík City Welfare Council Björk Vilhelmsdóttir said the council decided yesterday to establish a similar mental illness service model, which has proven successful in Akureyri, northeast Iceland.
In Akureyri, such services are provided in one place, instead of having those suffering from mental illnesses walking from building to building in search of successful treatments, Morgunbladid reports.
Vilhelmsdóttir said a project leader will be hired January 1, 2008, to establish such an arrangement in the capital.
