Reykjavík’s Nasa Nightclub to Move Underground?

A hotel will likely be built in the current location of Nasa nightclub on Austurvöllur square in downtown Reykjavík. The building that facilitates the nightclub may be relocated to Ingólfstorg square and the nightclub itself may be moved underground.

Owner of Nasa Ingibjörg Örlygsdóttir is skeptical about these ideas and said she does not expect that an underground concert venue can become reality because it requires a minimum ceiling height of seven meters, Fréttabladid reports.

Reykjavík City councilman Gísli Marteinn Baldursson of the Independence Party is positive towards the ideas, which will be discussed at a meeting today. He said they both encourage development and protecting old buildings.

Councilman Dagur B. Eggertsson of the Social Democrats agrees. He said the plans are in tune with the ideas of the old majority coalition in Reykjavík City, when he served as mayor, that old buildings should be relocated to Ingólfstorg square, which is around the corner from Austurvöllur.
