The atmosphere was electric in Laugardalshöll sports arena in Reykjavík yesterday evening when the students of Holtaskóli elementary school in the Reykjanesbaer municipality, southwest Iceland, won the annual fitness competition Skólahreysti.
The competition was especially exciting this year and in the end there was only one point setting apart the winner and Lindaskóli in Kópavogur, last year’s winner. The team of the Ísafjördur elementary school in the West Fjords placed third, Morgunbladid reports.
Established in 2005, Skólahreysti is intended to encourage children to exercise. Only six teams enlisted the first year but now more than 100 schools participate in different qualifying groups with the finals being broadcast on live television.
