Researchers refused access to abortion information

The Data Protection Authority has rejected Medical Director of Health Matthías Halldórsson’s request to grant researchers in gynecology access to information about abortions, which was retained at the Directorate of Health.

The study in question is a continuation of an older study that was based on information about abortion. The researchers were granted access to the information provided they deleted it by October 1, 1999, Morgunbladid reports.

The information was not deleted but retained at the Directorate of Health. Halldórsson wrote a letter to the Data Protection Authority saying the directorate had made a mistake in retaining the information and that it has now been deleted.
