Rescue teams in Northeast Iceland were called out shortly after noon yesterday to help foreign tourists whose cars were stuck in Langidalur. Severe weather was in the area and the road had been closed with a sign. Therefore, the call came as a surprise.
The ‘Closed’ sign had not stopped the travelers, who kept going, undeterred, until their cars got stuck in snow. The eleven tourists who were in the cars were transported to Jökuldalur, where they were given shelter.
A post on the Facebook page of ICE-SAR reads, “This cost them nothing and now they sit happy and cheerful in warmth and shelter, thanks to the rescue teams.”
