Rescue Drill at Reykjavík Airport

Don’t be alarmed at the sight of fire, ambulances and rescue vehicles at Reykjavík Airport tomorrow, RÚV reports. A major drill is planned there between the hours of 11 am and 3 pm. About 450 people will participate in the staging of a plane crash.

The staged accident won’t go unnoticed, so Isavia, the company which runs the airport, would like residents to be notified that this is only a drill. The operation will be very extensive, involving many professions, such as airport workers, police, fire fighters, ambulance workers, hospital workers, the Civil Protection in Iceland, rescue workers, the Red Cross, ministers, investigators, and many more.

Such plane crash drills are done every four years at every airport in Iceland offering scheduled passenger flights.
