Repairs to West Fjords Ferry Will Take Weeks

Repairs to the Ferry Baldur which sails to the West Fjords will take another two to three weeks, reports The ferry’s main engine experienced a failure early last week, suspending service. The ferry is 40 years old.

“We are just waiting. There’s nothing else we can do,” stated Ásthildur Sturludóttir, mayor of Vesturbyggð municipality in the southern West Fjords. “This is very serious for fish transport from the area as well as transportation of other products to and from the area,” she added.

Travellers can check for updates on the ferry service.
