Oscar-winning cinematographer Robert Richardson has come on board for director Baltasar Kormákur’s upcoming movie project, Adrift, reports Vísir. Richardson is one of Hollywood’s most renowned film directors and has won three Oscars for his work, according to a release from Baltasar’s production company, RVK Studios.
Richardson received Academy Awards for Best Cinematography for JFK, The Aviator and most recently Martin Scorsese’s Hugo. He has also been nominated for Oscars on six other occasions, for his work on Hateful Eight, Django Unchained, Inglourious Basterds, Snow Falling on Cedars, Born on the Fourth of July and Platoon. Richardson tends to work a lot with the same directors, such as Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino and Oliver Stone.
Baltasar Kormákur is an Icelandic actor, director and producer best known for his films 101 Reykjavík, 2 Guns and Everest, and recently Icelandic TV series Trapped as well, which became an unexpected hit overseas after the BBC acquired broadcasting rights.
“I am very honored to work with Robert, he is one of the world’s leading cinematographers today. He’s been at the helm of cinematography for nearly 30 years. Such experience is invaluable in the making of Adrift, which is set almost entirely at sea,” stated Baltasar in the press release.
Adrift is based on the true story of a young woman and her fiancé who, during a sailing trip, run into a massive storm in the Pacific Ocean on their way from Tahiti to California. Shailene Woodley and Sam Clafin are attached to the project as leads.
