Renewed Seismic Activity in North Iceland

Minor earthquake swarms were detected northwest of Gjögurtá by the mouth of Eyjafjörður fjord in North Iceland yesterday evening and last night.

Two earthquakes of a 2.5 magnitude hit with a short interval around 1:30 am but other quakes were weaker, reports.

Last week it seemed as if seismic activity in the region was about to subside and the Civil Protection Department was planning to assess whether the level of uncertainty declared last month could be lifted.
