Two American production companies are apparently interested in making a remake of Icelandic film The Higher Force (2008), directed by Ólafur de Fleur Jóhannesson, who recently returned from Los Angeles where is film was screened at the AFI festival.
“The Higher Force was screened twice and the theater was full both times. It was received much better than I had hoped. It didn’t take Pétur Jóhann [the main actor] a long time to charm everyone,” Jóhannesson told Morgunbladid.
Jóhannesson would not reveal which companies are interested in producing a remake of The Higher Force because negotiations are in the initial stages. “I didn’t expect such offers. You just don’t expect anything in this business, then you usually end up being satisfied.”
Another film directed by Jóhannesson, The Amazing Truth About Queen Raquela, is also touring festivals around the world, currently being screened at a film festival in Greece. The film is a documentary about a Filipino transsexual who lives in Iceland.
The documentary recently received an award at the Cinemanila film festival in the Philippines.
