Remains of Hurricane Approach Iceland

The remains of the hurricane Berta are approaching Iceland and will go straight across the country today. According to meteorologist Einar Sveinbjörnsson, a hurricane has not drifted all the way to Iceland in mid-summer before.

“This tropical storm has hovered above the Atlantic Ocean for a very long time and as late as Saturday night one could still make out the eye of the storm,” Sveinbjörnsson told Fréttabladid.

“We are expecting a downpour in the afternoon, especially in south and southwest Iceland,” Sveinbjörnsson said.

“The rainstorm will probably be followed by unusual warmth, but we have no reason to believe that it will be windier than during a normal summer depression,” Sveinbjörnsson concluded.
