The first animal to be shot was a 100 kg buck close to Breiðdal, reports.

Reindeer live exclusively in the east of the country. Each year hunting quotas are set and permits are required to hunt the species.

In recent years, reindeer meat has gained popularity as an addition to the traditional Christmas menu.
