Mayor of Djúpivogur Gauti Jóhannesson said the community was happy to receive a visit from the reindeer. “These are beautiful animals,” he commented to visir.is.

A herd of 180 reindeer were located on Road 92 in the narrow valley connecting Reyðarfjörður and Egilsstaðir last week, crossing back and forth over the road and posing a hazard to drivers.

East Iceland is the only area of the country where wild reindeer are found.
