Reindeer Bucks Stuck Together by Fence Wire

Two wild reindeer bucks in southeast Iceland have been stuck together for the past week by wires that are wrapped around their horns. The animals are being monitored but they are quick to escape when approached, so it hasn’t been possible to untangle them.

Bjarni Pálsson, divisional manager at the Icelandic Environment Agency, said it isn’t justifiable to kill the reindeer bucks yet as there is hope for their survival; they will soon lose their horns and become untangled on their own, reports.

Quite a few reindeer have become entangled in fencing lately and local search and rescue teams have been called out to cut the animals loose. Others manage to tear themselves loose on their own but are sometimes left with wires in their horns.
