Refugees to Arrive by Year-End

The Syrian refugees who have been offered protection in Iceland will arrive before the end of the year. Minister of Social Affairs and Housing Eygló Harðardóttir posted the information on her Facebook page last night, RÚV reports.

This is a group of 55 people, 35 of whom are children. They will arrive from a refugee camp in Lebanon. Twenty-three of them will settle in Akureyri, North Iceland, 17 in Hafnarfjörður, and 15 in Kópavogur.

An agreement between the Ministry of Welfare and the municipalities regarding the refugees’ reception was signed last week. The Red Cross in Iceland will assist with their arrival in each municipality.
