Red paint thrown over doorsteps of Chinese Embassy

A foreign protester threw red paint over the doorsteps of the Chinese Embassy in the west district of Reykjavík yesterday morning and declared sympathy for the people of Tibet.

The protesters name is Jan Jiricek, Morgunbladid reported. Jiricek declared that he acted alone and that he was not connected to any organization. He said he only wanted to raise attention to the human rights violations the Chinese authorities are committing in Tibet. He will be questioned by police over the incident.

Two hundred Icelandic teachers on a visit in China have been barred from visiting Tibet because of the riots in Lhasa, Tibet’s capital. They had organized visits to schools in Tibet. A spokesman for the group said they were going on a cruise on the Yangtze river instead.
