Record Year in Music

Sales of music increased 30 percent in Iceland this year, a record year, beating 2007. Mugison with his new album Haglél is the new King of Rock ’n’ Roll in Iceland, selling 30,000 copies.

Three albums, sold more than 10,000 copies last year: Páll Óskar Hjálmtýrsson’s live album of pop ballads with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra at Harpa, Helgi Björnsson’s country album Reiðmenn Vindanna and new pop band Of Monsters and Men’s album My Head Is An Animal.

Last week, their first single from the album, the song King and Lionheart made it to the top ten at the iTune store in the US.
