Record number of tourists in July

A record number of tourists in a single month came to Iceland in July. Some 67,000 foreign visitors passed through Keflavík airport, which is an increase of nearly 1,700 over the same month last year, or 2.6 percent. Of those, the greatest number came from the Nordic countries, or around 15,500; some 9,000 came from Germany; 8,700 from the US; and 8,000 from the UK. This is reported by Morgunbladid online.

From the beginning of the year to the end of July, 216,000 foreign visitors passed through Keflavík airport, representing an increase of 6.3 percent over the same time last year. Over the past few years, a greater number of foreign visitors have come to Iceland in August than in July, so it is likely that a new record will be set this month. These figures reflect only those tourists that arrive via the Keflavík airport and not those who pass through other international airports or who come with the ferry Norraena or on cruise ships.
