The University of Iceland’s annual Youth University began this week for the tenth summer running.
Youth University allows children aged 12-16 the chance to get to grips with sciences and the wonders of life with academics and graduate students at the University of Iceland.
The ‘university’ has never been so well attended as this year. Kristín Ása Einarsdóttir, head of the Youth University, told RÚV that the program is especially ambitious this year, offering 37 courses, 12 theme days and many other innovations. Courses including photographic studies, strange Icelandic and racing car building are on offer. “So there’s going to be a lot going on around here in the coming weeks,” Kristín adds.
Kristín Ása says that the aim of Youth University is a societal one: opening up the university to more than just university students and to allow 12-16 year-olds to better acquaint themselves with what goes on there. Around 350 students are taking part in the Youth University this summer, which is a new record.
