A total of 330 runners of the 345, who started the Laugavegur run in Landmannalaugar yesterday, completed the 55-km (34-mile) route and made it to Þórsmörk, which is a new record. According to earlier news, 357 people registered to participate.
The first part of the run proved very demanding this year, there was snow on the path, and conditions were wet and windy. However, the last part of the run was easier with tailwind and dry and good weather welcomed runners in Þórsmörk, mbl.is reports.
Icelander Þorbergur Ingi Jónsson was the first male runner to complete the run. He set a new record with 4:07:47 hours. Elísabet Margeirsdóttir, also from Iceland, was the first woman to reach the goal, completing the run in 5:34:05 hours.
