Almost 9,500 applications were sent to University of Iceland’s undergraduate and postgraduate departments for the coming autumn semester, a 3.3 percent increase from last year, which was also record-breaking.

Reykjavík University is looking at an even higher increase; 2,099 people applied for admission there, up by 22 percent since 2011 and 44 percent since 2010, Morgunblaðið reports.
The University of Iceland reported that applications have increased by 40 percent since 2009 when they numbered 6,800. This year, most prospective students applied for admission to social sciences at an undergraduate level.
At Reykjavík University, the highest increase, or 50 percent, was in applications for admission to the computer science department. The university’s technological and engineering studies are also popular.
