The number of passengers going through Keflavík Airport is expected to increase by 25 percent next year, reaching more than six million, RÚV reports. Twenty-five airlines will be offering flights to the country in 2016―more than ever before.
The number of tourists in Iceland is also expected to increase next year. At the same time, more airlines will be offering direct flights to Keflavík, and airlines already here will be flying to more destinations than before. Icelandair and WOW Air have recently announced plans for new destinations, but traffic will also increase with flights being offered for the first time by British Airways, Germania, Air Baltic, CSA and Iberia Express. Airlines new to Keflavík will add Bremen, Friedrichshafen, Prague and Riga to the list of direct flights offered.
Of the 25 airlines flying to Keflavík next year, nine will fly here year-round. Altogether, airlines will offer service to 86 destinations in Europe and North America.
New destinations offered by WOW Air next year include Los Angeles, San Francisco, Montreal, Toronto and Stockholm, while Icelandair will be adding Chicago, Montreal and Aberdeen to its schedule.
