2005 will go down as a record year for automobile imports, reports Icelandic National Broadcasting Service. Never before have as many cars been imported into Iceland; automobile imports increased 50% in 2005 from the year before.
26,000 new and used private- and commercial vehicles were shipped to Iceland in 2005. Last year, there were 12,000 new cars imported into Iceland; in 2005 over 18,100 were imported into Iceland. According to forecasts the industry will experience a 30% decrease in imports next year with about 19,000 cars being imported into Iceland. In 2007, the same forecasts predict that 15,000 cars will be imported and in 2008, 14,000.
