Record (Bone) Breaking Day

It looks like yesterday was a record breaking day―in terms of breaking bones, that is. Dozens of people visited the emergency room at Landspítali National University Hospital after a bad fall on the ice, RÚV reports.

Those who sought help were of all ages, and the most common injuries were broken wrists, ankles, arms and head injuries. Doctors call it one of the worst days this winter. There was a lot of strain on the staff of the emergency room, and lines were long to see a doctor.

The roads were particularly icy yesterday, when snowfall covered the already existing ice, making the most slippery spots hard to avoid.

This is the time to put spikes under your shoes. We call them mannbroddar. If you want to stay in one piece, make sure you know that magic word.

Driving conditions were also difficult yesterday, resulting in heavy traffic and accidents.
