Real Estate Prices up in Iceland’s West Fjords

The price of real estate in the West Fjords has increased by around 24 percent since the 2008 financial collapse, according to Óli Tryggvason at real estate agency Fasteignasala Vestfjarða.

Mayor of Ísafjörður, Daníel Jakobsson, told Fréttablaðið that there has been an increase in demand for housing in the area and the employment situation is good. “I bought when I first moved here three years ago but it would be more difficult now […] The employment situation is in good shape, everyone who wants can get work.”

Earlier this year, TIME magazine named Iceland’s West Fjords one of the world’s best-kept secrets.
