An Icelandic game development studio in Berlin, Klang games, is developing an online multi-player game (MMO), allowing players to create a world driven by emotion and ambition, RÚV reports.
“Our game is about establishing a family once humans have used up everything that can be used up on planet Earth and must start a new life on another planet,” explained Guðmundur Hallgrímsson, the company’s CEO. Each player directs numerous characters on the planet Trappist. (In February, NASA (the National Aeronautics and Space Administration), in fact, announced the discovery of seven Earth-sized planets found in the habitable zone of a single star, Trappist-1.)
Guðmundur established the company with two veterans of the MMO Eve Online, Ívar Emilsson and Oddur Snær Magnússon. “What Eve succeeded in doing was creating a world where players have a lot of influence,” Guðmundur remarked. “The level of complexity is high, which has, in fact, not been attained often in the game business. That’s why Eve is this famous.” He is convinced that the future of online games lies in creating complicated worlds where players have a say in the progress.
The world of Seed is complicated indeed. “All the characters in the game have a brain and base their decisions on whether they’re hungry, tired or feel like working,” Guðmundur stated. They can suffer, be depressed, become alcoholics, or lead a happy and healthy life. “Ultimately, we’re trying to create a solid picture of the society that exists today.”
