Rape Case Dropped by District Prosecutor

The district prosecutor has dropped the case of two men accused of raping a woman in an apartment in the Hlíðar neighborhood in Reykjavík in mid-October last year. The men’s defense attorney confirmed this, according to RÚV.

The case received a lot of attention after Fréttablaðið reported on it on its front page. Subsequently, pictures of the men were distributed on social media, along with their names. A demonstration followed in front of the Reykjvík Police Station, where police were criticized for not detaining the men.

Separate charges had also been filed against one of the men in another rape case. Those are still being reviewed by the district prosecutor. Moreover, the men’s defense lawyer filed charges against the women for false accusations.
