Reykjavík police and staff of Reykjavík Parking Service issued 40 to 50 parking fines at Nauthólsvík yesterday, according to Árni Friðleifsson, officer at the traffic department of the Reykjavík metropolitan police.
Many people parked their cars illegally, on the grass or sidewalk, visir.is reports. According to Árni, the police always try to act in cases where many people gather in the same area, for example when a national football game is held at Laugardalur sports ground.
In response to the complaints Árni said the weather was irrelevant. “We fine people who park illegally. It makes no difference what the weather is like. It is equally prohibited to park on the sidewalk in the rain and in the sunshine,” he said, adding that the car park at Reykjavík University, which lies in close proximity to Nauthólsvík, was empty.
