The English rock band Radiohead has arrived in Iceland and will be playing in Laugardalshöll at the Secret Solstice Festival in Reykjavík tomorrow night. The band members did not travel here in one group, RÚV reports, but have been arriving in recent days. Tom Yorke and his friends went out for dinner in Reykjavík last night.
The band’s appearance will be the main event of Secret Solstice this year. There is a lot of anticipation among fans, following the recent release of Radiohead’s ninth album, A Moon Shaped Pool.
The gate to Secret Solstice opens today at 4 pm, and the first events begin an hour after that. About 15,000 people are expected to attend the festival, which features 177 artists on seven stages.
Laugardalshöll accommodates about 11,000 people, making it likely that not all fans will be able to attend Radiohead’s performance. Fans of the band are advised to show up early. Musicians who appeal to younger people will play at the same time, in an effort to spread the crowd.
Preparations for the festival are at their last stages with 600 people working to get things ready.
Radiohead performs at 10 pm tomorrow night with the Icelandic band Fufanu warming up. “It’s great to get the band [Radiohead] to the country at this point in time, since Icelanders will be among the first to hear them perform material from their latest album at the concert,” commented Ósk Gunnarsdóttir, the promotional director of Secret Solstice.
