Around 60 volunteers from Icelandic NGO SEEDS will assist with preparation of each day of the race including setting up the competitors’ tents and drying their clothes. Roughly 250 individuals are participating in this year’s race, reports.

The Iceland race is part of RacingThePlanet’s Roving Race event. The event was held in Jordan last year and is scheduled to take place in Madagascar in 2014.

RacingThePlanet was established in 2002 by American Mary Gadams, a former investment banker and strategist, who has completed more than 50 marathons, ultra marathons and wilderness competitions around the world.

Last weekend, the Laugavegur Ultra Marathon took place in Iceland’s highlands.
