The driver of a car who lost control and crashed into a lamppost at Hafnarfjardarvegur in the capital region last night got away with minor injuries but the car is severely damaged.

After hitting the lamppost, the car overturned a few times before landing a few hundred meters off road, visir.is reports.
Eyewitnesses described how the man, who is 64, had been racing with another car for a considerable time before the accident occurred. The driver of the other car disappeared from the scene but later contacted the police. He is 25.
The police told visir.is that other commuters were shocked by their behavior; their safety was jeopardized.
