Icelandic gaming company Plain Vanilla, which shut down its operations in August, has sold its hit game QuizUp to US gaming company Glu Mobile for ISK 7.5 million (ISK 850 million, EUR 7.2 million). The game will henceforth be operated from San Francisco.
In a press release from Plain Vanilla founder Þorsteinn B. Friðriksson, he said that even though it’s difficult to lose his “baby” to the US, he’s excited about what will happen next, ruv.is reports.
Plain Vanilla in Iceland and Plain Vanilla Corp. in the US will now cease all operations and complete the settling of accounts with their employees and debtors. Part of the acquisition price for QuizUp was paid with the settlement of a debt between the two gaming companies.
All of Plain Vanilla’s employees in Iceland were laid off in August. Þorsteinn explained at the time that NBC canceling its planned gameshows based on QuizUp had proven too large a blow for his company.
