QuizUp Goes Native

Players of QuizUp, the mobile trivia app based in Iceland, can now create their own questions, it has been announced.

Starting from today, users can also play QuizUp in Icelandic for the very first time.

QuizUp has 75 million registered users around the world who play 7 million games a day.

The app is owned and operated by Icelandic tech company Plain Vanilla, which today released details of the changes to its highly successful app, which include the ability for users to create their own new questions and entire categories, a statement reads. Users can therefore dream up questions on any topic they can possibly think of and then share them with friends, groups, or the wider QuizUp community.

Alongside this big change to the game’s operation, it is also now possible to play QuizUp in any language in the world, whereas until yesterday there were only seven. That means Icelandic players can now play in Icelandic, RÚV helpfully points out.

“Right from the start we have wanted to allow QuizUp users to create their own question categories. By opening QuizUp up to them we are revolutionizing how game content is created and users can now easily create questions and start communities on any topic, and just whatever they want,” Plain Vanilla’s Þorsteinn Baldur Friðriksson says. “We can’t wait to see what our users come up with. It has been seen at many of the biggest internet companies in the world that their popularity greatly increased when they gave users a free hand. This is without doubt the biggest change that has been made to QuizUp and we think that people will be pretty happy with it.”
