Putin to Come Fishing in Iceland?

Russian billionaire Iskander Makhmudov is currently renting salmon fishing river Eystri-Rangá in South Iceland and President of Russia Vladimir Putin is rumored to be joining him. The Russian Embassy would not confirm the news to Vísir, reasoning that they would know if Putin were coming.

Blogger Eiríkur Jónsson writes that the area around the river has been closed and that extensive security measures have been taken. He adds that Putin will stay at luxury Hótel Rangá with his entourage of 70 people, maintaining that Putin’s security guards have hired three police cars and the services of six police officers.

Makhmudov has rented Eystri -Rangá for one week, starting yesterday. However, according to Vísir’s sources, he has not arrived yet. The Uzbekistan-born billionaire has rented the river before. Fishing has reportedly been good there this summer with a high ratio of big fish.
