Rescue teams were called out at 6 p.m. last night to search for three ptarmigan hunters lost near Skjaldbreidur, a dormant volcano just north of Thingvellir. The vehicle used by the hunters was found at 7 p.m., and shortly afterward two hunters were located on the southern slope of Skjaldbreidur. Both men were unharmed. The third hunter was able to maintain telephone contact with the rescue teams and was found at 9 p.m. unharmed. The Icelandic National Broadcasting Service reports that visibility was poor and it was dark during the duration of the search. The hunters are believed to be Icelandic.
