Masked protestors barged into Hótel Borg in Reykjavík on December 31, damaging equipment belonging to 365 media company, where private television channel Stöd 2 was preparing to have its annual panel discussion Kryddsíld with ministers and opposition party leaders. Nearly 200 people were protesting outside the hotel.
CEO of 365 Ari Edwald told visir.is that he does not have any exact numbers on how much financial damage was caused, but according to preliminary estimates it could amount to ISK millions (ISK 1 million = USD 8,200, EUR 5,800). Some people suffered minor injuries during the protests.
Edwald said the company is going to look into its legal position because of the incident, asking for how long police can dismiss masked individuals demonstrating violent behavior as a joke that needn’t be taken seriously.
“It is not about people expressing their opinions anymore. When you look at the video on Vísir it is obvious that this is more about people getting sucked into the action; people who join in to fight and smash things,” Edwald stated.
