Protestors Arrested at Road Construction Site

Between 20 and 30 police officers are currently stationed at Gálgahraun lava field where members of the group Hraunavinir (‘Lava Friends’) are protesting the construction of a new road connecting Garðabær and Álftanes in the capital area.

One of the members of the group, environmentalist and reporter Ómar Ragnarsson, was arrested shortly before 11 am.

According to RÚV, there are between 20 to 30 protestors in the area. The demonstration has been peaceful and protestors haven’t objected to police officers leading them away from the work area.
