A group of concerned citizens plan to gather outside Parliament at 17.30 today to protest the arrest of an Italian tourist by police. The tourist, Luigi Sposito, was arrested last Saturday under suspicion of being a terrorist.
Sposito had been taking pictures and drawing sketches of the Parliament building on Saturday afternoon. Later that evening, he was arrested inside a Reykjavik bar by the Viking squad. He spent 12 hours in jail until he was released.
“We simply want to show the police that it is totally unacceptable to treat people like this,” says protestor Thurídur Helga Kristjánsdóttir.
