Protest outside Russian Embassy in Reykjavík

Samtökin ‘78, The National Queer Organization of Iceland, is encouraging people to gather outside the Russian Embassy in Reykjavík at 5 pm today in protest of Russia’s stance on gay rights. Earlier this year, Russia passed a law banning what it describes as propaganda for homosexuality.

The protest is part of All Out, a global movement for LGBT equality. Actions are being held around the world today, ahead of the G20 meeting in St. Petersburg on Thursday, ruv.is reports.

Mayor of Reykjavík Jón Gnarr announced in July that he would like to formally revise or break off the capital’s political and cultural relations with Moscow in light of the Russian capital’s stance on gay rights.
