Prosecutor Chosen for High Court Case in Iceland

Sigrídur J. Fridjónsdóttir, assistant public prosecutor, has been asked to serve as prosecutor for Althingi, the Icelandic parliament, in its case against former Prime Minister Geir H. Haarde before the High Court.

Fridjónsdóttir has confirmed this and says she is considering the offer. It is assumed that a prosecutor will be voted for at Althingi tomorrow or on Wednesday, reports.

At the same time a substitute prosecutor will be voted for and a five-person parliamentary committee appointed to monitor the trial and assist the prosecutor.

Fridjónsdóttir was among the experts who the parliamentary committee which reviewed the Special Investigative Commission report and concluded Haarde should be taken to court called in for consult.
