Thirteen MPs have put forth a bill proposing a bike path between Reykjavík and Keflavík International Airport, RÚV reports. Substitute MP Pawel Bartoszek of the Reform Party and 12 other party members from all parties except the Progressive Party and People’s Party are behind the bill.
The bill proposes the Minister of Transport appoint a task force to evaluate suitable cycling routes between Reykjavík and the airport. The group would then submit a planning and financing proposal for the project by January 2019.
Reykjavík and Keflavík airport are connected by Route 41, known as Reykjanesbraut. The distance between the city and the airport is roughly 50 kilometres (30 miles), and the road is a major traffic artery in Southwest Iceland.
