Propose 200-Room Hotel in Húsavík

A proposal for a new 200-room hotel was presented in Húsavík, Northern Iceland yesterday, RÚV reports. The hotel would be one of the largest outside the Reykjavík capital area and would be built on the very edge of Húsavíkurhöfði cliff. The project’s goal is to find a foreign hotel chain to take on the project and market it globally.

The building’s design shows a round hotel with 360-degree views build right on a cliff’s edge. Fakta Bygg AS is the building contractor which has been working on the proposal since December. The company is based in Norway but is owned by Icelander Kristján Eymundsson.

Kristján says preparation for the project is complete and investors are ready to begin the first phase. The proposal will now be presented to foreign hotel chains. “We originally thought of big Norwegian hotel chains. There are many with business in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, but not in Iceland. Then we saw more chains which we will contact,” said Kristján. “And we could start building in 2019.”
