The traveling time from Reykjavík to Keflavík International Airport, a distance of around 50 kilometers (30 miles) could be reduced to just 20 minutes, according to a report published by Kedeco, the development company for the airport, about the possible construction of a high speed rail system.

More than 2 million passengers pass through the airport today but the number is expected to rise to 4.5 million in ten year’s time, the time it would take to construct the railway, mbl.is reports.
The last 15 kilometers (11 miles), from the town of Hafnarfjörður to central Reykjavík, would be constructed underground.
The cost is estimated at ISK 100 billion.
Iceland has never before had a passenger railway system.
