President of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson presented the awards on behalf of ÍMARK. The night’s speaker was director of Reykjavík City Theater Magnús Geir Thórdarson, who won the award in 2010. This was the 21st time that successful marketing campaigns are recognized with the award, as stated on ÍMARK’s website.
In regard to this year’s recipients, the jury stated that Ásbergsson has achieved remarkable success in the one year since Promote Iceland was founded and he assumed the executive position, notably with the Inspired by Iceland campaign, which has also earned foreign marketing awards.
Icelandair was considered to have demonstrated great success and professional marketing while facing various challenges in 2011, including a volcanic eruption, glacial outburst, an instable economic situation and airline industry strikes—even so this appears to be the best year of operations for the airline, which has boasted continuous growth in the past three years.
The telecommunications company Nova and prosthetic manufacturer Össur were also nominated for the award this year.
