Prominent women contribute to Save the Children project

An anonymous female donor contributed with ISK 500,000 (USD 7,900, EUR 5,900) to the charity Barnaheill, Save the Children Iceland, in a fundraising luncheon last week. The money will be used for developing work in Uganda.

Nearly 40 prominent Icelandic business women, artists and politicians were present, including Minister of the Environment Thórunn Sveinbjarnardóttir, vice-chairman of the Progressive Party Valgerdur Sverrisdóttir, activist Bryndís Schram, visual artist Steinunn Thórarinsdóttir and Elaine Mehmet, the wife of the British ambassador in Iceland.

Mehmet is one of the organization’s patrons and a volunteer. Thórarinsdóttir donated a painting at the fundraising luncheon, which will be sold in a charity auction, Morgunbladid reports.
