The Progressive Party submitted a statement to the European Committee yesterday saying an EU membership is not realistic at the moment, but as Iceland is in Europe its future lies in cooperation with other European nations.
Hjálmar Árnason, one of the Progressive Party’s representatives on the committee, said: “It is unprofessional to rule out a future membership. We have to strengthen our position within European cooperation.” Fréttabladid reports.
The Independence Party and the Left Greens declared they were against EU membership for Iceland in a protocol submitted to the committee on Tuesday.
The other parties have not made their conclusions on EU membership public yet.
