Sigurdardóttir said: “We should not hide the fact that the instability in the coalition with part of the Left Green parliamentary group has damaged the cooperation within the coalition government and diminished the credibility of the government. Because of the unity within the Social Democratic Alliance and a solid cooperation with the chairman [Finance Minister Steingrímur J. Sigfússon] and the majority of the Left Green this has not stopped the progress of important government bills.
But it is a dangerous game to play political solo at the cost of once coalition partners, trusting that unity among the rest of the group and their support for unpopular but necessary decisions will insure that the cooperation between the parties prevails.
A dangerous game that might not end in the way people expect. Those supporters of the government who look at the statement of cooperation as a meaningless piece of paper are playing with fire.”
